Review of Flawless (2007) by Alex H — 15 Oct 2009
Despite featuring moments of extremely heavyweight acting, the film doesn't really have that much of a plot to utilize the characters that had been created.
Having seen my Grandad after having a stroke when I was very little, I can say that Robert De Niro's performance was very convincing and brought back memories that I thought I had forgotten. Philip Seymour Hoffman, one of my favourite actors, went slightly over-the-top with his role, but it wouldn't have been overly distracting if there was actually a structure and a plot for the film to form around.
The film seemed too focused on finding a conveluted way of getting De Niro and Hoffman together, and when they finally do get together everything that transpires is a bit dull and way too cheesy. The film then drfits off and focuses less on the characters and more on the action/thriller aspects, which seems like a bit of a waste. There are also a lot of weird subplots that aren't really tied up which is kinda annoying.
Still, it was an alright watch. Good acting, no plot and no real depth to it beyond what has been seen and done before.
