Review of Flatliners (1990) by Connor _ — 29 Oct 2010
A very interesting concept, with an interesting resolution. Very good lead performance by Kiefer Sutherland. William Baldwin probably could've been replaced, maybe with Stephen Baldwin. Good cinematography providing a hellish atmosphere, particularly emphasizing the horror of a volatile child.
Kevin Bacon's character, a logically-minded agnostic medical student, is well written, as is Sutherland's dark, guilty doctor. Director Joel Schumacher's creativity and originality never ceases to impress, though he has yet to top his '86 vampire wonder, 'The Lost Boys', where Sutherland gives his top performance.
Definitely keeps audiences on edge, though a more creative screenplay could be desired. All in all, a satisfying sci-fi thriller. B+.
