Review of Flatliners (1990) by Lance R — 27 Oct 2007
Very effective atmospheric thriller. Flatliners could so easily have taken the easy route out and gone for simple jump tactics but cranks up it's creepiness factor by using slow build suspense to a winning effect. It's wonderfully made, playing up the gothic and macabe elements adds to overall feeling and the inventive use of the fuzzy hand held camera in the early scenes brings the notion of students messing around with stuff they don't understand all the more plausability.
It loses a little momentum towards the end but Flatliners is a decent and original chiller.
