Review of Flatliners (1990) by John M — 05 Sep 2012
Medical Students experiment with death in a movie that isn't about death. Instead, it's about people having to confront their demons. So, it's disappointing that the movie doesn't have the courage to actually talk about life and death and instead be a spooky suspense story.
But, on that level, it is relatively good. It is scary to a good degree. Schumacher's overly-glossy direction typically dilutes the effect the movie could have. Jan de Bont's cinematography is overly arty, and gives a superficiality to the proceedings.
