Review of Flashdance (1983) by Kasey T — 05 Apr 2010
What a feeling!
Alex Owens is a young lady growing up on the mean streets of Pittsburgh with aspirations of becoming a dancer. The opportunities are far and few between so she serves as a dancer on stage during the night and works in the steel mill during the day. While dancing she encounters a man that could change her life; however, is his good intentions too good to be true?
"She's a maniac on the floor.".
Adrian Lyne, director of Mr. Smith, Foxes, Nine ½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Jacob's Latter, Indecent Proposal, Lolita, and Unfaithful, delivers Flash Dance. The storyline for this picture is triumphant and magnificently delivered. The scenes were well selected and well depicted and the acting was perfect for the content. The cast includes Jessica Beals, Michael Nouri, Philip Burns, and Lilia Skala.
"Did you know the smallest penis ever measured was 1.1 inches?".
"You are some pair of cunts, you know that?".
I always found Flashdance to be a sad picture. The end is so abrupt and it leaves you wanting more. I adored the characters and they were brilliantly delivered by Lyne. This could have easily been a two hour movie; however, it may not have been so perfect if it was. I actually like this movie better than other pictures in this genre (Dirty Dancing, Footloose, and Fast Forward). Nevertheless, this is an all time feel good movie that belongs in your DVD collection.
"You give up your dream you die.".
