Review of Flashbacks of a Fool (2008) by Jared C — 01 Nov 2009
Pretty enjoyable movie, Craig as a washed up Hollywood star is great, Mark Strong is great in a brief scene as his agent and Craig's home at the beginning is amazing. However the real plaudits should be reserved for the teen stars of the flashbacks from the title - Harry Eden (young Joe Scot) and Felicity Jones (Ruth) both are brilliant. Great stuff. The nostalgia with 70's music especially Roxy Music were great and beautifully shot (as was the entire movie). Problems lie with the story, it did all fall a bit flat come the end but it did have its moments. If you do become attached to the characters and become emotionally involved as I did with them then you do feel for them especially after the tragedy that the film revolves around.
Interesting and different movie but ultimately felt low key with me for some reason and a bit of a missed opportunity, nonetheless worth a look.
