Review of Flash Point (2007) by Dan M — 10 Feb 2010
Now I'd heard of this film a while back from some like-minded Martial Art enthusiasts, with them all informing me that the final 20/30 minute sequence was the only thing worth watching.
Well YES it is a fantastic climax to the movie, but NO; the movie it does not make.
Flash Point is set in Hong Kong prior to the 1997 handover to China, Donnie Yen is a copper on the trail of bad guys and his partner who is currently undercover in one of these bad guy gangs.
As he & his partner get more and more involved in the case, personally and professionally, they find themselves at war with the rival players as well as the very men they're investigating.
All in all this is a reasonable cop flick with the usual (and also often) required elements of the gangsters, cops, kidnappings, strong supporting cast and bad-ass martial arts. It also has to be said that Donnie Yen is present as the stunt coordinator for the movie, where he showcases a dazzling skill for mixed martial arts as the aforementioned 'END SCENE' kicks in and the baddies receive some SEVERE comeuppance, smack down stylee. :o).
