Review of Flash of Genius (2008) by Sheranga- T — 22 Feb 2009
Uneven movie. At times it was very very good, in particular Greg Kinnear as Bob Kearns. Kinnear is a great actor. This is one of those roles that spans enough time of the character's life that it requires an actor to depict the aging process and the emotional damage he inflicted on himself and his family at the expense of his crusade.
It had to be a challenging movie to make because Bob Kearns was not a "noble hero" and he is not portrayed as such. His focus on suing Ford consumed his life, distanced him from his kids, and led to divorce.
Considering Kinnear played Bob Crane so well in Auto Focus, I'm not surprised he could pull it off. I could see a movie like this mythologizing Kearns, but it doesn't and that's a good thing.
A really good movie, but not great.
