All the right ingredients are there: the story, excellent actors, competent filmographers, but there is a major problem. In the script is written these one dimensional characters who every line and act supports "how the story is supposed to go at this stage" - where characters support writers agenda instead of their own.

And now that writer has done this and main characters marriage gets broken it is totally unmotivated. This kind of treatment of characters which I call in my vocabulary "round" suffocates the movie, makes it almost unbearable at times as it is not true to real life or how I perceive it.
