Review of Flags of Our Fathers (2006) by Josh R — 11 Jul 2009
Clint Eastwood simply can do no wrong. Flags of Our Fathers is beautifully shot, exceptionally well acted, and starkly real. The narrative and cinematography capture the bleakness and horror of war amazingly well.
It starts with a legendary photograph and breaks down the story to its not-so-glamorous roots. My only criticism is that that the flashbacks/non-linear storytelling, while interesting, is sometimes hard to follow, particularly if you're trying to construct a time line of events.
Maybe that's like war, though. It doesn't give you a chance to catch your breath.
