Review of Flags of Our Fathers (2006) by Jim M — 07 Nov 2011
The Companion to Letters From Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers depicts the Battle of Iwo Jima threw American eyes, particularly the men who raised the flag on Mt. Suribachi and who particapated in the supsequent War Bond tour.
Excellent film from Clint Eastwood depicting the both the war and the home front. Adam Beach as the troubled Ira Heyes almost steals the entire show aside from the scenes of battle. 2 scenes standout the most for me, one on the way to Iwo Jima when a man falls over board. His buddies tease him as the ship sails on, until some one mentions none of the ships in the convoy will stop to pick him up, he slowly fades in the distance as the gravity of there situation hits. The second has Ryan Philippe entering a darkened cave to examen the remains of his buddy, he kneels down lights up his lighter...and just look at the look on his face, Philippe nailed it.
