Review of Five Minutes of Heaven (2009) by Samuel G — 18 May 2010
Five Minutes Of Heaven, though an incredibly touching movie, is one that is lacking in actual plot, and entertainment. The acting is among the best I've ever seen, and to be honest, that's all that makes it an acceptable feature film.
The thing that really brings this film down is its lack of background. More flashbacks would have pulled for a nice film that really holds a place in your memory, but the film lacks its IRA background, and thus, the film lacks in showing us who the characters once were, and than showing the change that causes them to become who they are, and thus the back story simply exists, and they playing a key role in the films plot, it is easily forgotten by the viewer.
With a great cast, this film seems to be able to patch up many of its mistakes. That is, until the viewer begins to think back and realize just how half-assed this film was. All this movie is is monologue. There's nothing going on, just talking. And though talk is good, to much of a good thing leads to a snooze fest, and momentum is almost completely last by the end of this films run time.
