Review of Five Easy Pieces (1970) by Wild Willie N — 12 Jul 2006
Another one of Jack Nicholson's early greats, where he is the star and the film itself. Although I don't think it as timeless or entertaining as Chinatown(possibly the direction may have soemthing to do with it), 5 easy pieces is still thoughtful, insightive and deep. Possibly being way ahead of it's time, this film scratches the surface of class and lifestyle, pointing out things that may seem rhetorical in life. However with Nicholson addressing the issues and playing the character, it always makes for humourous and down to earth points of view.
5 Easy pieces may seem flat and pointless at times, slowly building to something, but its though provokation in the individual viewer is well worth it. It showed something personal to me, about the desire to connect to nothing and float on the wind.
