Review of Five Easy Pieces (1970) by Benjamin W — 07 Sep 2010
Alright,...so this film is about something; existentialism, apparently. Jack Nicholson plays Bobby, a once piano prodigy, turned emotionally detached, periodic drifter. Throughout the film he cheats on his pregnant(?) girlfriend, twice, mistreats her in various ways, and vents his work and other frustrations.
Five Easy Pieces is too brief, too sparse, to allow for any meaningful connections. Ultimately, it comes across unfinished or abbreviated. And does just enough to make you care...albeit very little.
