Review of Five Easy Pieces (1970) by Jeremy F — 10 Feb 2008
This little gem of a movie, created under the masterful direction of Bob Rafelson (a very underrated director) never misses a beat and takes it's audience through a whirlwind of emotions before letting them go.
What seems to begin as a light-hearted road trip movie soon turns into an incredibly deep and personal character study that goes to show that you may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with you.
Jack Nicholson delivers a virtuoso performance playing Robert Dupea, a man we love to hate yet can sympathize with when the going gets tough. The combination of this film and "Easy Rider", released about a year before, perfectly demonstrate the revolutionary turn in cinema that would dominate the 70's.
