Review of Five Easy Pieces (1970) by Chris M — 03 Apr 2010
A showcase for the talents of legendary Jack Nicholson, this film's silent sense of subtlety, and raw discontent is what makes it so emotionally stirring. The pain and anguish of the musical prodigy who has shunned his talents in order to embrace the life of a drifter with no attachments, and whose sense of self is diffuse and non-existent is tragic, to say the least.
Nicholson has never been better, and the movie is a landmark in his extraordinary career. Boasting terrific cinematography, and intriguing story, and a great supporting cast, highlighted by Karen Black's Oscar-nominated supporting role; "Five Easy Pieces" is influential, indelible, and above all, POWERFUL.
