Review of Five Broken Cameras (2011) by Michael R — 22 Feb 2013
The documentary's obvious attempt at political activism actually weakens its position for anyone other than people who share its one-sided view of the situation.
The villagers' objection is to the settlement itself, although the fence is a symbol of it to them. The camera appears to be used, as in so many such cases, not merely to record events, but to instigate them. Burnat is up to his eyeballs in protest, and in teaching his children to hate Israelis, even as they turn to the Israeli medical and legal systems for medical needs and legal justice.
