Review of Five Across the Eyes (2006) by Steve H — 10 Jul 2008
Five Across the Eyes is about a group of girls who get lost on their way home, and after stopping for directions they accidently crash their car into a SUV. Fleeing the scene in fear they will get in trouble they make their way down unfamiliar roads, when all of a sudden they see a single headlight following them. This leads to girls being chased, assaulted and trying to survive from the driver of the SUV.
When I saw the trailer to this film, I thought it looked ok even though I was not expecting much; and as predicted I did not get much. The trailer bills this film as "Very Scary", "Simply Outstanding" and "Works on Every Level" but the film had none of what was stated in the trailer.
The acting in this movie was ok but not brilliant. A couple of times you could not understand what some of them were saying as they were to busy screaming and crying during the film. One scene during the movie they are being pursued and one of the girls leans out of the car and throws her own feces at it. Who came up with that stupid idea?
The camera work was a disgrace. I couldn't tell sometimes if it was actually a cameraman filming or a handheld camera. There were some very bad camera angles used and the camera wouldn't stay still half the time, which left you being unable to see what, was happening. Also the shots kept going in and out of focus which just got annoying in the end.
The movie overall was really disappointing. I am quite surprised this movie even got the go ahead to be made. I have to say though the ending of the movie was quite violent and probably the best part of the film. Apart from the relief of the credits coming up that is. :-).
If you want to watch a movie of this genre then I would recommend you watch The Blair Witch Project.
