Review of Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Bradley R — 02 Jul 2007
This film only exists because Kinski and Herzog were both equally insane men! Who else would really take a boat over a mountain? It's a fantastic story of one man's obsession with opera amidst the imperialist exploitation of the Peruvian jungle.
The encounter with a real Indian tribe (that actually offered to kill Kinski) ads a unique sense of authenticity to the film. Enjoyable and thought provoking!
