Review of Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Ben W — 21 Sep 2009
One of the greatest triumphs in movie making history. and I mean that in multiple senses. the film is ambition defined. herzog and kinski team up yet again to make a film about a man with a dream and how he goes about attempting to make that dream a reality.
he gets funding to take a steamer up the amazon to locate natural resources. they face many struggles, twists and turns, and in the end they pull the massive vessel literally over a mountain. whats so amazing about this film is that the incredible task that the main character sets before himself is essentially as large as herzogs task of making this film.
they did, in fact, pull a steamship over a mountain for the shooting of the film, not to mention the difficulties with the local indian tribes. for more info on this watch the previously rated burden of dreams, a documentary on the making of the film.
