Review of Fish Tank (2009) by M P — 17 Feb 2010
Katie Jarvis, Keirston Wareing, Michael Fassbender, Harry Treadaway, Rebecca Griffiths.
DIRECTED BY: Andrea Arnold.
Fifteen-year-old Mia's world is turned upside down when her mother brings home a new boyfriend.
Mia is a loner that nobody likes, and she really doesn't care. Her mother is an alcoholic who takes no interest in Mia or her other daughter Tyler. They seem to say and do as they please. Mia has a dream of being a dancer but gets no support from her mother for it. Her mother brings home a new boyfriend and that's when things change. Mia seems to be a bit fascinated with him. He in return seems to be with her and encourages her dancing. I think him encouraging her and taking an interest in her is why other things happen later on in the film. It's really a depressing disturbing movie with some harsh scenes. But I thought Katie Jarvis was brilliant in the part. I also liked Michael Fassbender in this as well. They were both great and gave excellent performances. Definitely worth seeing.
