Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Ojas V — 18 Feb 2010
A harrowing coming of age story, of a lower class 15 year old girl in the bleak landscape of industrial England. Some of the imagery is mushy, but the acting performances are great. It is sad and interesting to see the thin strands of what should be strong family bonds, as this lonely girl goes about the difficult time of becoming and adult.
She has no idea who she can trust, and as things progress...her life becomes even more complicated. The strength of the film is in its ability to not pull any punches, and give an authentic experience.
...even when the symbolism can make you roll your eyes a bit.
