Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Justin F — 29 Mar 2010
The story of a typically normal, dysfunctional one parent family. The film is gritty, raw, very funny at times as well as being hopeful, uplifting and downright grim & depressing.
I thought this film had many merits. For example, it captures the feel of life on a council estate in a very convincing way. Performances are good & the characters and relationships are believable with the possible exception being Fassbenders character who didnt seem to belong in the setting that he found himself in though you could argue that was the point of him as a person. The becomes all the more apparent as the story unfolds.
In short, very interesting though "happy- happy-joy-joy" family viewing it is not.
