Review of Fish Tank (2009) by George Q — 16 Apr 2010
Terrific second film from Andrea Arnold, taking the council estate flats of Essex as the contemporary backdrop of the relationships between 15 year old Mia, her mother and mother's latest casual boyfriend.
Arnold gets superb performances from the cast especially Jarvis who really brings a wealth of complex emotion to the girl hiding under her hoodie and the story is equally unpredictable threatening to spin off into Fatal Attraction territory before settling back to a bright and promising outcome for a character you really come to care for.
