Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Michèle F — 11 Jul 2010
Fish Tank has successfully portrayed a lower-class single-parent Brit family - the little girl's rough language had made it highly authentic. The story was to-the-point and not over-the-top; the plot lines were expectable but well-managed - it could've been turned completely cheesy yet Katie Jarvis' role (of a 15-year-old rebellious girl Mia) had kept things in control.
Ruthless and brutal, the movie is VERY depressing (amplified in particular by the high self-consciousness of Katie Jarvis' role Mia). Great casting has also contributed to the movie's success.
*the 3-star rating is strictly personal.
