Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Adam M — 22 Feb 2011
Great hard hitting drama. A mouthy, 15 year old girl who's been brought up on a London council estate by her mum who couldn't really give a shit and has dreams of getting out and becoming a dancer seems destined for more trouble when a new man enters her life; her mums boyfriend.
The man seems charming enough but the girl still continues to be her chavvy self but it soon becomes clear the man has other things on his mind, not just the MILF-y mother. A great debut performance from Katie Jarvis as the young girl, who was discovered while having a row with her boyfriend in a shopping centre! You can see why she was picked here as its definately a mouthy, sweary character but also one thats brave and has a heart.
Michael Fassbender plays the boyfriend well, enigmatic, charming but slightly sleazy and ultimately hiding something. A good, hard look at modern Britain with an engaging story.
