Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Peter T — 14 Jan 2012
It is spectacular dram which shows hard living in poor district; in England, where the shadow of poverty fades out beauty. Rap music, harsh language, alcoholic drinks, urban dancing are the themes of movie, all the offensive elements that needs for survival in such a rough circumstances.
It is a second movie which I saw from Andrea Arnold after Red Road; and it was as good as Red Road. Like Red Road, Fish Tank is a women-centered movie. In Fish Tank, Andrea Arnold pictures a quarter full of destitution and threats and leaves her main character, 15 years old Mia in the middle of big mess, the girl that lives with her debouched mother and her scurrilous younger sister.
The condition she lives in; kills all her feminine and forces her to hide them, as more offensive she acts, safer she feels. She is lovely even with her fierce attitude. Arnold depicts beauty in the darkest and wretched moments, and she offers you hope while you feel despondent.
In the dead end road she draws sky and gives you wing to fly.
