Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Chris B — 25 Feb 2012
"Fish Tank" is the story of a girl coming to grow up in a seedy and morally ambiguous place and time. The film features great and realistic performances from it's two leads Kate Jarvis (Who was selected when a casting director heard her arguing with her boyfriend at a train station!) and of course the always talented Michael Fassbender.
The film is a modern day coming of age film and one that is filled with gritty realism and many emotions from it's small cast of characters. The film won at Cannes and I can see why, as it takes a sensitive and hot issue and dives headfirst into it.
This is certainly a great, yet mature watch that casts it's characters in different lights in order to get to the truth and comes highly recommended!
