Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Liam R — 08 Oct 2012
After watching Fish Tank I thought the story never really escalated to anything the high points of the film very quickly became routine, the storyline was at first what seemed predictable. It was the stereotypical British film the director puts the lead role through an onslaught of difficulties with a great escape ending; this is done in a large amount of British films nowadays.
Although I believe that the directing was very intelligent shot in a 4:3 ratio it shows how Mia feels trapped in a society that she cant escape, the entire film feels boxed into the ration as Mia feels boxed in with her life.
The camera work is incredible all filmed on a handheld camera it shakes and this reflects how her life is shaken and unsure with no real balance. The one thing that felt right to her was her relationship with Connor but that takes a turn for the worse when she discovers the real him.
The storyline however did pick up and during parts was intriguing and showed real difficulties in Miaâ??s live such as her naivety to the real world.
