Review of Fish Tank (2009) by Wayne M — 18 Oct 2012
This is raw, uncompromising, confronting cinema. At times bleak, it will offer an insight into squalid and poor life in lower class Britain. Newcomer Katie Jarvis shines as Mia, a teenage girl living in an destructive home with her single and horrible mother.
Mia is sometimes unlikeable but ultimately very real and sympathetic. The great Fassbender illuminates as Connor, a man who seems to offer hope but ultimately offers more of the same. Also, for a bleak setting Arnold has filmed this strong film with sometimes breathtaking beauty.
Great cinema.
