Exactly what was the point of this movie? To show the audience that life among the poor in slums sucks and that some people ( the mother and her scuzball pedophile boyfriend) should not have children or be around them? I used to teach high school, so you are preaching to the choir here.
That what few dreams of the future such abused children have never pan out? There is only "gritty realism" that has no purpose--no solutions are proffered here and nothing new or startling is exposed.
Why do we need to be shown what reality is? We know. If unsavory reality is to be rammed down one's throat, there should be a purpose to it, and incitement to change things that can be changed. There is no purpose here-no solutions suggested.
It's just ugly reality for the sake of ugly reality.
