Review of First Men in the Moon (1964) by Dustin M — 20 Jul 2009
A nostalgic trip for me, as this was one of those movies I stayed up to see on a Friday night when I was young. While the idea was good (astronauts land on the moon only to find that someone had been there 60 yrs before!), the film gets bogged down with typical early 60's "zaniness" and goes downhill from there. While there are some bright spots, including a small bit by the wonderful character actor Miles Malleson and a Bernard Hermann score, a nice conception pretty much gets wasted.
Too bad Charles Schneer didn't take this as seriously as he did with Jason and the Argonauts or 7th Voyage of Sinbad...
