Review of First Man (2018) by Shannon M — 23 Oct 2018
I cannot begin to express how disappointed I was in this movie. Terrible! First, the "cinematography" ruined everything. The way-to-close-closeups and the herky-jerky hand-held camera shots literally made me nauseous.
WTF? A high-budget Hollywood epic that looks like it was shot by a toddler holding a bad cell phone camera. I'm 60 years old. I was totally engrossed as a kid following the space program. There is so much to be told: the guts of the men who volunteered to be shot into space in a tin can; the brilliance of the men who figured out get it there and back in 1969 with less tech than you have in your new refrigerator.
.. not to mention the interesting life story of Neil Armstrong. All I got was jerky shots of Gosling's pores! The only positive of the movie was the 5 minute sequence of the LEM moon landing - historically accurate and exciting.
Wait for the Netflix release, and fast forward. Otherwise, it totally sucked!
