Review of First Blood (1982) by David H — 11 Sep 2010
No one makes action movies like this anymore, that's why this is the best action movie ever made. Perhaps the greatest action movie of all times and Stallone's best film and role. Now a days in action movies you see men with no shirts, machine gun in hands with the catchy one-liners and macho attitude. Of course that's cool but this film doesn't have that. What really makes this film great is that the film-makers did in awesome job in making the character RAMBO be the actual center point of the film and it's story. They also did a good job in making the viewer feel for Rambo and taking his side unlike in the book where Rambo is just some frustrated war-driven psycho who kills for the sake of it. In the book you're on the cops and national guards' side. In this you're on Rambo's side and you cheer for him all the way. Stallone's performance in this film is Oscar worthy, he really brings the character to life with his gloomy look like you can see war right through his eyes. Stallone understood this character right from the get go and that's why he did an amazing job in this film. The reason why I think this is the greatest action film ever made is because this film taps into the inner savagery of all humans and the will to survive an un-winnable fight. Of course you can't have an action movie without explosions, and this movies DOES have explosions. Especially at the end where Rambo arrives with a machine gun and goes on a rampage. The film's memorable characters, well-telling story, terrific acting, haunting music score, and action scenes definitely mark this film as the greatest action movie of all times!
If you have never seen the original Rambo movie (First Blood) then you HAVE TO see it! You will love it. It will not only entertain you but leave you emotionally pleased and breathless. This film will make you cheer all the way.
First Blood is my #2 favorite movie of all times.
