Review of First Blood (1982) by Chris M — 06 Apr 2010
"First Blood", unlike its sequels, is not about a shirtless man firing as many rounds as he can without taking a single bullet himself. It's about strategy, stealth, and wit. Sylvester Stallone plays John Rambo, a green beret coming home from Vietnam. But coming home was not the wonderful occasion that he had hoped for. He finds himself being alienated by everyone, even though he just wants to go back to a normal life. He is forced into a battle for his life.
Some people might be confused that this film isn't called "Rambo." Well, this is the first film in the series. The second film was called "Rambo: First Blood Part II" and the third entry was called, strangely, "Rambo III". We can think of it this way: the Rambo series went so far away from what it originally was that it's embarrassing to call the sequels, well, "sequels", so let's think of them as a spin-off series!
