Review of First Blood (1982) by Christopher S — 16 Aug 2011
Before the character of Rambo became a superhero and then pop-culture icon/joke, he originated in this pretty well-made action thriller. It's not without a few over the top moments, but features a number of expertly-crafted action sequences by director Ted Kotcheff, a strong cast (particularly memorable work from the always reliable Brian Dennehy), a great score by Jerry Goldsmith, and more psychological depth than you'd expect from your typical 80s action movie.
A solid film that deserves its cult following.
