Review of Firewall (2006) by Jamie S — 14 Sep 2008
Perhaps this should have been a warning to Harrison Ford that he's just getting a bit too old now to play the action hero. It's hard to really take him seriously in Firewall, you almost get the impression that he should be limping after the bad guys with a zimmer frame.
Sadly, Ford's unsuitability to the role is not the only flaw with Firewall. The script is naff, the story full of holes and the everyone looks quite woeful at how little tension or sense anything is making.
Paul Bettany also has to win the award for the least organised criminal mastermind in movie history. His evil scheme is like a piece of swiss cheese. But then when you've employed the student who pretended to have a gay crush on Ross in Friends as one of your henchmen then your plans are probably doomed to failure to begin with.
One or two scenes threaten to deliver some thrills but they don't last and the film plods slowly to a silly conclusion. It's trying to be one of these ultra-hip techno thrillers but a general apathy from the cast, the script, the direction and ultimately the viewer is all this manages to achieve.
