Review of Firestarter (1984) by Guy G — 21 Nov 2011
[C/60] Underdeveloped in terms of characters and drama, and generally a rather muted caper involving secret government agencies, the paranormal, and a cute little girl with incredible pyrotechnical powers.
It never really lifts off the ground, but nevertheless manages to convey an edgy suspense in a more-or-less efficient and straightforward vehicle. Entertaining in the manner of an old late night movie of the week, a feeling augmented by a lot of (very underutilized) star power, the best of which is George C.
Scott as an Indian assassin. The soundtrack by stalwarts Tangerine Dream is also quite good, a model of dappled 80s electronica.
