Review of Fireproof (2008) by Rob L — 06 Jul 2010
CONSENSUS: A well-meaning premise can't save this syrupy, peremptory film that plays much like a bad Lifetime feature. Cameron has yet to improve his acting skills since his stardom in GROWING PAINS and destroys the hopeful film with his overexaggerated performance (with the exception of a few select scenes, some of which are truly touching).
The supporting cast is flimsy in that support, with not a single strong performance in the entire film. Thankfully, the story is a good one (an uplifting moral story that Hollywood would do well to adopt) and key emotional moments are executed beautifully.
Not a total loss, but one that needs serious improvements. MY GRADE: C-.
