Review of Fireproof (2008) by James N R — 01 Aug 2011
One of the best and most realistic films I've seen in a long time plus it does honour the gospel...Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains (Left Behind as well) is in this film as a firefighter who "leaves no man behind" in his work yet seems guilty of leaving his wife behind.
Truthfully though, it is never (or rarely at least) one person's fault and that is true here. He is a cad, no doubt, but they both lacked the wisdom to make their marriage work.
Although he may have been guilty of going online and looking at pornography (carefully and tastefully handled in this film), it is his wife who goes further and encourages the advances of a colleague (who may in fact be married as well).
Ultimately, Kirk finally realizes the damage he's done to his marriage and to his wife and repents and persists despite his wife's initial rejections or lack of appreciation. There is breakthrough at last (and not at all unrealistically) and the marriage is not only saved but renewed with a second wedding observance, this time on a firm foundation! 10 out of 10!
