Review of Fireproof (2008) by Daniel W — 28 Mar 2012
With all due respect to the Kendrick Brothers, Fireproof is just okay. It tries very hard to deal with some very serious issues, but it's "bring the whole family PG" mentality, means that a lot has to be sugarcoated and fluffed over to ensure that "the children", or "the church people" aren't offended.
It is decently acted, and the cinematography is okay too, but the "big Fireman rescue scenes" are a little underwhelming and dissapointing. Am I saying Fireproof is a bad movie? No. It's got good moments, but all I'm saying is, if it had decided either to be a feel good PG marriage flick, or a tell it like it is, PG-13, or maybe even R, divorce movie, about the dangers of pornagrophy, and adultery told from a christian perspective, it could have been much much better.
