Review of Finian's Rainbow (1968) by Rami R — 04 Feb 2007
Its not particularly PC (at all) and what was once charming now straddles the line between weird and offensive (the hippie commune is saved by accidentally inventing menthol cigarettes? the racist authority is magically turned black by a horny leprachaun?) Nevertheless there are moments when that Coppola brilliance shines through and thematically he's showing off America through the optimistic outsider view point.
Plus "If this isn't Love" is a wonderfully performed song.
