Review of Finding Vivian Maier (2014) by Ian G — 01 Apr 2015
A very riveting doc that originally started out as a research piece by John Maloof that led him to an auction house to secure some historical photos of the city he lives that actually led to one of the most uncommonly prolific photographers of the last century (in the 10's of thousands) who just happened to be a nanny and vagabond with a troubled past who for whatever reason had never had any of her work published to the public with the exception of some photos for picture postcards.
Was a great watch and almost anthropological in nature as Maloof as he went along and retraced Vivains steps found some of the people she cared for, more treasure troves of some of her work in random places and also found out about the tragic passing and times at the end of her life.
Very cool stuff about an artist whose whole success has been posthumously recognized at least by the public.
