Review of Finding Vivian Maier (2014) by Robert E — 01 Sep 2015
It's "Searching for Sugar Man" all over again! A film that would have you believe it reveals more about an unknown artist than sometimes we know of one famous in their own lifetime - the dark, troubled side, the isolation, the drive.
You feel like the work emphasises, not leads the story, and in return you get to understand something of the connection or empathy, though I don't think specifically sympathy, she felt for some of her downtrodden subjects.
Maloof's apparent unwillingness to help perceived rivals, and their complete omission, along with his self aggrandisement, ultimately do tip you off you've been duped.
