Review of Finding Neverland (2004) by Kevin M — 01 Aug 2012
A very good movie with very good performances and a very well written script. The film may be accessible to kids (due to the PG rating) but I don't think Marc Forster intended for kids to understand it the same way adults would.
Finding Neverland is a whole lot more than the creation of Peter Pan, it's about imagination and gives examples as to why some people would have a limited one. Johnny Depp and Freddie Highmore (Charlie Bucket from Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) both steal the show, and that ending really brings out all of the emotion the film slowly builds.
I was shocked at the incredibly large yet welcome amount of meaning this film had. I find the best movies to be emotional and meaningful, and Finding Neverland possesses both of those qualities.
