Review of Finding Nemo (2003) by Mitchell B — 13 Jun 2016
Finding Nemo is definitely one of Pixar's greatest works. To many it's their greatest achievement. I'm not one of those people. In my opinion The Incredibles is their finest piece. I also like Wall-e or the Toy Story film more. However, this is still a very fun and well-made film I liked it as a kid and still as an adult. That's the highest praise a family film can receive.
The story revolves around a clown fish named Marlin who is an overprotective dad because of events that occurred at the beginning of the film. One day his son Nemo gets kidnapped by some human dives and Marlin must travel the ocean to find him with his companion Dory. The story is basic but that sometimes is the best especially for a family picture.
The animation is superbly done. All the characters are fun and likeable and play off each other great. The jokes are also well-written. Not all of the jokes land but most are on-point. I remember when I saw this as a kid for the first time I was laughing like a hyena.
What's great about this film other than everything I just mentioned is that there's not real villain. There are definitely some antagonists and obstacles for our main characters to overcome, but no real villain. It helps make the story a bit more real, or at least as real as a premise like this can get.
Overall, Finding Nemo is a great time for the entire family. Most have already seen it, but if there's anyone who hasn't then go check it out.
