Review of Finding Forrester (2000) by Julian P — 22 Apr 2008
Even this is not a Van Sant's masterpiece, "Finding Forrester" is 2 hours worth seeing simply for the performances of Connery and Abraham. Forget some of perfect editing, perfect script and storytelling! The film has several other weaknesses to be sure. Much is being made of Van Sant's "discovery" of Robert Brown.
Just enjoy a simple story with nice acting. The message is positive, the feelgood feels good. In the end, however, it is artificial. Van Sant knows how tough life can be. He's been there!
The sweetness of this odd friendship works beautifully as an idea........, but not in reality!
