When I watched this, I was in college, finishing a creative writing certificate course. I loved it back then. Now that I saw it for a second time, I can say that it actually doesn't amount to much.
Van Sant failed to generate the right chemistry between Thomas and Connery. It's a wayward-lead-meets-mentor-and-they-fix-each-other cliche.
