Review of Finding Forrester (2000) by Eric F — 27 Jul 2011

Was quite good, better than my expectation actually. Good to see Sean Connery performance. Rob Brown is playing basketball with his friends in the court and Sean is looking out through the window. They talk stories about him like been a serial killer.

They dare Rob to enter his house. He climb through the window and took a letter knife but run off when Sean appear. Rob has average results but his test score is excellent, enough to attract a good school inviting him over.

Next day, Rob is at Sean's window and he throw it down. His little booklets fill with thoughts and essays are been corrected by Sean. Rob visit Sean but he was told off and to write a 5000 words essay why he should see him.

2nd time he just throw his essay outside his door. 3rd time he get entry to Sean home and got his essay back. Anna Paquin is the student told to guide and show Rob around the school. At the basketball trial, he made a new enemy.

F. Murray Abraham is the essay class professor. Anna show Rob an excellent book written by Sean. He did some background check and show the book to him. Sean want him to keep it a secret. He teach him how to write well.

He told Rob long ago Murray submit a draft story to publishers but rejected by all, so he end up teaching people how to write. Sean's only book is in fact still very popular and sold out. Sean teach Rob how to woo girls - unexpected gift, unexpected time.

Murray is suspicious of Rob been capable of writing so many good essays. Rob bring Sean out to a baseball game but they were seperated and Sean had anxiety attack. He bring Sean to the field after hours, to celebrate his birthday.

Sean has fond memories as he used to go to games with hsi brother before the war. Murray want Rob to write essay in his office, as precaution he might be getting help from other. As for the story of Murray, Sean is the one who call the publisher he is writing 2nd book, so everyone rejected Murray.

Sean don't like the way Murray writes. Rob challenge Murray during a class when Murray pick on a student and is chase out. His essay is chosen to represent and the board ask who is his inspiration.

They found out it is almost identical to an article by Sean in 1960 even the same title. And he must write apology letter to Murray in class. Sean is not happy about Rob not keeping his promise to keep everything within the house.

Anna's father who is director board want Rob to win the basketball champion and he will settle all other issues. Rob miss the winning 2 free throws. His brother saw a letter by him to give to Sean and pass it.

Sean comes out and appear in school during the reading session and proceed to read one essay. He finished it and said it is all by Rob. Murray still insist his way but the board quickly overrule him. Rob is thankful of Sean.

He is going back to Scotland. In his senior year, a lawyer (Matt Damon) find Rob and told him Sean passed away from cancer and left his apartment keys to him.
