Review of Finding Amanda (2008) by Phillip J — 24 Jun 2008
Usually Brittany Snow makes me sick. John Tucker Must Die, Prom Night- not an impressive resume. But she turns out to be this movie's only saving grace. although she's not always spot-on, her melt-down in a Las Vegas bathroom is riviting and gives something else this movie tries too hard to get: perspective.
it tries to be relevent, going after the over-sexed American culture by show-casing a seemingly innocent girl who's a hooker and treats all the sex like it was nothing. it could've worked if the movie didn't revel in showing us graphic sex and strip clubs like it was cool.
Matthew Broderick is completely out of place here, trying to be both an addict and his stereotypical nerd character has disasterous results. Hearing him say "fuck" is like hearing Clint Eastwood come out of the closet, it just will never work.
If you have to watch this movie, keep your eyes strictly on Snow, she has her moments, and great potential if she would try harder.
